UK Plate Auction is a marketplace that allows users to offer, sell and buy registration numbers/ number plates (called “Registrations” or “Personal number plates” in this document). Please be aware that when we use the word ‘own’, meaning ownership of Registration, we actually mean the person who has primary rights at the time, subject to government authorisation.
UK Plate Auction does not have the possession of personal number plates listed or sold through UK Plate Auction and is not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. The contract for the sale is directly between the buyer and seller.
UK Plate Auction only provides a platform for the seller to list their Auction lot/ (number plate) for sale and a platform for potential buyers to bid on an Auction lot with the intent of purchasing such an Auction lot, if the reserve has been met.
UK Plate Auction does not guarantee the existence, quality, safety, or legality of the number plates advertised and sold through our platform. UK Plate Auction is not a party to the transaction and is not a traditional auctioneer. UK Plate Auction does not review users’ listings or content.
You agree that you are solely responsible for all expenses you may incur in relation to the use of Services.

A contract to transfer a Registration between us and you or between you and a seller of a Registration is only complete when we send you an email confirming that your bidding is successful. The buyer’s premium of 5% has to be paid in full to UK Plate Auction (excluding VAT) before we can reveal the seller’s details to you. The buyer’s premium is not refundable under any circumstances.
Please note that all Registrations and transfer of Registrations remain at all times subject to DVLA and government approval. Our platform allows sellers to advertise their Registrations as available for immediate sale under the “Buy it Now” listing. By bidding on the "Buy it now" auction lot you become liable to immediately proceed with the purchase of the Registration from the seller for the price it was advertised for (called the “Price”). You are also liable to pay our intermediary fees (called the “Buyer's premium”) in full. The buyer's premium will be charged in addition to the selling price advertised by the seller.
HIGHEST BIDDER - LISTING 7 DAYS
Our platform allows sellers to advertise their listings to the prospective buyers for a period of up to 7 days, during which prospective buyers can make multiple bids in an attempt to win your auction lot. The buyer bidding on a Registration (called the “Auction lot”) enters into an unconditional legally binding agreement to purchase your Registration. Should this bid be the highest, the buyer will be required to pay the buyer’s premium and proceed with the purchase of the Registration.
Please note: In the unfortunate event of technical issues with the website, we reserve the right to cancel the transaction.
When buying a Registration from our platform you agree to:
- provide valid payment details for the buyer’s premium to be charged Page 4 of 7

If you want to register a seller account with us and sell your Registration on our website we can help you in one of the following ways:
We might try to find a Buyer for your Registration, acting as an intermediary (known as deal-broker) under the “highest bidder” scheme. In this case, you will need to list your Registration on our website and set a minimum price/ reserve price you would be happy to accept for your Registration (called the “Reserve Price”). We then enter into a conditional contract whereby you are committed to selling your Registration to a buyer who bids on the lot and offers the “Reserve Price” or the price above the reserve price.
We might try to find a Buyer for your Registration, acting as an intermediary (known as a deal-broker) under the “buy it now” scheme. In this case, you will need to list your Registration on our website and set a “desired selling price” (called the “Price”) for which you are happy to transfer your ownership rights of a Registration to the buyer who bids on that “Registration”.
If the buyer changes their mind after bidding on a Registration (called the “Auction lot” or “lot”), the buyer will be liable to pay our fees.
As a deal broker, we are not liable for any other payment to you. However, in this case, with your permission, we will re-advertise your Registration for sale.
Once we have found the buyer and the above conditions have been fulfilled, if you fail to transfer the Registration without good reason, we or the buyer may pursue legal action against you for breach of contract. We have sole discretion in determining what constitutes a ‘good reason’.
You must first confirm your legal ownership of the Auction Lot (called “Registration”) before listing the Registration on our website.
There is no sellers fee.
The seller gets to keep 100% of the selling price.
Please note: In the unfortunate event of technical issues with the website, we reserve the right to cancel the transaction.
